Lots of people think that benching hurts your shoulders but, when done correctly, it can add a ton of useable strength that transfers onto the mat and into the cage.

Bench Press Cues for Success

  • 7 points of contact on the bench
  • Slightly narrow grip
  • Pull the bar down to the chest
  • Pause at the bottom – maintain tension
  • Press up with speed
  • Keep elbows in tight
  • Do NOT overextend the shoulders at the top of the movement
